Danville Firefighters had to force their way into a home for a fire call in the 900 block of East Main Street last night (December 11, 2019). And they found one ‘victim’ partially hanging out a second floor window when they arrived. But don’t be alarmed. It was only a drill.
Lieutenant Chris McMahon, Fire Marshal and Training Officer for the Danville Fire Department, says multiple training sessions are being held this week…
{‘’We’re doing training for all three shifts for the next three days – simulating a real fire with real victims trapped. It makes us more proficient at the job we do,’’ said McMahon.}
McMahon says the training is made as real as possible…
{‘’Everything is just a real incident. The only difference is they don’t use lights and sirens coming to the scene,’’ said McMahon during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}
Lieutenant McMahon thinks it is important to have such training – even in the cold weather….
{‘’I think it’s very important. This training teaches us our deficiencies and we can go back to the station afterwards in a controlled setting and work on them.’’}
So, if you saw all those fire trucks in the 900 block of East Main Street last evening – it was only a drill.
