Coroner Releases Tilton Fire Victim’s Identity

Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has released the identity of a Tilton man who died in a fire at his home late Saturday (December 21, 2019).  She says 25-year-old James Anthony Swank was pronounced dead at the scene at 105 East 4th Street.

The Coroner says Swank died from smoke inhalation in the fire which totally destroyed his home.  His mother was also home at the time of the blaze and was taken to the hospital to be checked.

Tilton Firefighters received help from several other departments in battling the flames.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene leading that investigation.
