Danville Police say they have recently increased concentration on speeding due to citizen complaints and concerns. And Police Commander Terry McCord says one area where they are conducting extra speed patrols is in the 2200 block of Denmark Road — specifically over the Dallas Bowman Bridge over Lake Vermilion….
{‘’We have vehicles right now going up to 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit going over the bridge. You can imagine how dangerous that can be in any area – especially an open area like that going across the bridge. We’re really having a lot of problems out there right now,’’ said Commander McCord during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}
And McCord says another area of concern is school zones….
{‘’We’ve been concentrating on school zones since the beginning of the (school) year. We’ve spent a lot of time during the day enforcing the zones, trying to have as many officers present as possible,’’ said McCord. ‘’But yow that’s always a concern for us. We want to make sure everybody’s really being cautious and slowing down in our school zones.’’}
Commander McCord says another area of concern is along parts of North Vermilion Street….
{‘’That’s a very high volume area. There’s a lot of traffic and it can be difficult to perform enforcement there. When we have details there’s such a high volume of traffic that it’s hard to get in and out of there, but that’s another area where we really would like people to slow down for their own safety,’’ added McCord.}
And Commander McCord adds the goal of Danville Police traffic enforcement is safety and education…not to write tickets. He adds Police want the public to ‘’please pay attention to speed limit signs and slow down’’.
‘’If you have to choose between arriving late and safe or not arriving at all, please choose late and safe,’’ added McCord. He says motorists need to think ahead and give themselves extra time to get to appointments.
