A 23-year-old Danville man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police say he was among a group of individuals who fired shots while inside a car.
Arturo Chavira was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and obstructing a police officer. Danville Police Commander Josh Webb said officers responded to the 1600 block of Fairchild Street at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a woman reported that a man had fired shots from inside a car. Officers found spent shell casings on the ground. They later attempted to pull over the suspect’s vehicle but he fled, crashing into a fire hydrant. Five men fled from the scene.
Officers later searched the area and found two handguns. Chavira and a second suspect were later charged, but the other man later had his charges dropped.
