CRIS Healthy Aging Center has named Fowler Connell as the Senior of the Year Award winner. Fowler worked for 40 years in the newspaper business including 37 years for the Commercial-News. His career began in 1949 with The News-Gazette, then moving to Danville in 1952. He retired from the paper as sports editor in December 1989, then switched to radio, broadcasting games with WDAN. He continues to serve as a member of the Danville High School broadcast team, junior college and Illini broadcasts. He has appeared on WDAN’s Saturday Sports Talk for over 30 years.
Besides his work with local media, Fowler remains a very active volunteer even at age 95. He has assignments with the local Golden K, the Key Club at Danville High School, Builders Club at North Ridge Middle School, along with other groups including the VA hospital, a local nursing home and the Danville Township Food Bank.
