If you want to be a country singer, the Danville Symphony Orchestra wants to hear you sing.
For the Feb. 29 “DSO Goes Country” Concert at the Fischer Theater, Maestro Jeremy Swerling will invite a guest singer to the stage to sing a country song with Nashville singer/songwriters Marcus Hummon or Matraca Berg.
To choose this singer, the DSO is holding a contest through its Web site, www.danvillesymphony.org. Aspiring guest singers need to record a video of themselves singing one of the songs listed on the site and then post it with a link to YouTube. The public will vote on their favorite singer. The top three will audition, and the one with the best country voice will rehearse and perform during the Concert either as solo singer of a Mr. Hummon song or as a duet with Ms. Berg.
The deadline for entering the contest is the end of the day on Weds. Feb. 26.
For more details about the contest or about how to vote for your favorite contestant, go to the Web site.
A limited number of tickets to the Feb. 29 concert remain. They may be purchased through the DSO Web site or by calling (217) 443-5300, or in person at the Symphony office at 715 West Fairchild St., Danville.
The DSO is a 501 c 3 organization with a 52-year tradition of bringing outstanding orchestral performances to the City of Danville, Vermilion County, and the East Central Illinois region.
