A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect today across areas of central and east central Illinois. It is scheduled to expire at 6 o’clock this evening (Wednesday, February 26, 2020).
The National Weather Service said early today that there is a possibility of an additional two inches of snow, with locally higher amounts, across the region.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said early today (Wednesday) that roads in northern Vermilion and Iroquois counties were snow and ice covered. And across much of central Illinois – including the Springfield area – roads were snow and ice covered.
Even interstates 74 and 57 were partially covered with ice and snow (as of 6:00 a.m.). Of course road crews have been out working to improve conditions for travelers. But if you are out on the roads today, the Illinois Department of Transportation says you should slow down and use caution.
The City of Hoopeston says its snow route program is now in effect until six o’clock this evening. All vehicles parked along snow routes must be moved.
