VA Focus Groups
The VA Illiana Health Care System will be conducting focus groups for the Veterans who receive care in Danville, IL to tell the VA how they're doing in providing care and services. Focus groups will take place Wednesday May 22nd and Thursday May 23rd at various times throughout the day. Travel pay is not authorized for. Saint James United Methodist Church is having a Blood Drive on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 3-7 pm at the church, 504 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL 61832. Seventeen is the minimum blood donor age in Illinois or age 16 with a signed parent’s permission slip (available at the church). Be sure to eat a hearty meal before you come and bring a photo ID or your Blood Donor’s card. It's simple. It's safe. And you could save up to three lives. 49th Annual Turtle Reunion Races
Knights of Columbus present the 49th annual Turtle Reunion Races on Saturday June 1st, 2013 from 12pm to 8pm at 310 Bryant Avenue in Danville, IL. There will be turtle races, food, and beverages, a 50/50 drawing, and fun for all. All proceeds will be donated to help those children with developmental disabilities. 49th Annual Turtle Races
Saturday, June 1st from 12-8pm at the Knoghts of Columbus Hall, 310 Bryan Ave in Danville. There will be food & beverages, a 50/50 drawing and Turtle Races. Benefit for C.A. Rush
There will be a benefit for C.A. Rush who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Come & Join us in showing support for one who has always been there to support others. Love Inc and Downtown Danville present Family Friendly Fun Day of music, games, food, and a bounce house on Saturday June 8th, 2013 from 10am to 2pm. Spaghetti Benefit Dinner for Ian Claypool
There will be a Speghetti Benefit Dinner for Ian Claypool including spaghetti, bread, salad, dessert and a drink on June 8th from 5pm to 8pm at the Friendship Center in Covington, IN. All proceeds go to the Claypool family for Ian's cancer treatment and medical expenses. Pre-sale tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for ages 4-12, ages 4 and under are free. Kids' Fishing Derby
Join the Champaign Park District and the Optimist Club of Champaign-Urbana for the free Kids' Fishing Derby, Happening Saturday June 8th from 9am to 12pm at Kaufman Lake. Kids ages 6-12 will get to show off their fishing skills and win prizes. Bait will be provided, but be sure to bring your own fishing tackle. A parent/guardian must accompany their child(ren) and fill out a permission form for each participant, available on site the day of the event. In addition to the opportunity to win prizes, participants will also recieve a free hot dog lunch. Beautiful weather is anticipated but a rain date of Sunday June 9th is scheduled. Cruisin' Towards Cures For Campers
“Cruisin’ Towards Cures For Campers” 7th Annual Benefit Show for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. To be held on June 15, 2013. Located at 1706 S. State St. Champaign, IL (Hooters and Hardee's parking lots) Qualifying show for the Best of the Best! (held in Brighton, IL Oct. 13) Pre-registration cost is $10.00 and cost at the gate is $15.00. Gates open at 9:00am. Judging for the 18 classes and 8 specialty awards begin at noon. The first 100 participants will receive a goody bag and dash plaque. Drawings for raffle prizes every hour, silent auction, 50/50 drawing and a cash grab bag. Awards and invitations to the "Best of the Best" will be at approximately 3:00pm. This event is open to the public free of charge.
All profit from this show goes to the Central IL Muscular Dystrophy Association which serves 44 counties in IL and Marion County in MO. They offer all services and summer camp free of charge. They also support research for a cure for the more than 40 different types of Muscular Dystrophy.

Illinoisan of the Day
The Illinois State Fair is looking for 10 individuals to spotlight as Illinoisan of the Day at this year's state fair in August. This is someone who makes a difference in their community while showing Illinois spirit by hard work and dedication to helping others. Illinoisan of the Day winners will be invited to recieve gifts and honors on stage during their special day at this year's state fair, which takes place August 8th through 18th. Nomination forms can be requested by calling the Museum Foundation at (217) 415-4408 or printed at www.statefairmuseum.org . The postmark deadline for nomination is June 15th. All nominees must currently reside in Illinois. Illinoisan of the day winners and their nominators will be contacted by phone in late June to begin arrangements for August ceremonies. Winning names will be announced at the museum foundation's annual Corn dog kickoff on Saturday, July 13th, inside the Orr building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

17th Annual Sports Media Camp for Kids
The 17th Annual Sports Media Camp for Kids will be the week of June 17th through June 22nd. The nations leading sports media camp is for students ages 10 through 18. Kids will learn play by play interviewing and sports video skills. Learn from national broadcasters and enjoy a field trip to University of Illinois. Campers will broadcast a Danville Dans game along with hosting a LIVE radio talk show on WDAN. This year's camp will feature the voice of the Final Four Gene Honda. Survivor Georgetown: Deep Sea Exploration at Mary Miller Junior High
Students will create tribes and develop teamwork and leadership skills as they ''travel'' the oceans of the world June 3rd through 27th, Monday through Thursday, 9am until 12pm. Students that meet the attendance requirement will be able to attend field trips to Forest Glen, Lafayette Water Park and the Shedd Aquarium. Space is limited, so enrollment forms should be submitted ASAP to reserve a spot. SURVIVOR Enrollment Forms can be obtained & submitted to Mary Miller Junior High School or Ridge Farm Elementary School. This is a free program for Mary Miller Junior High students and Ridge Farm Elementary 5th graders. Free transportation, breakfast and a snack will be provided. One Day Forklift Operator Safety Course
Danville Area Community College's Customized Corporate Education Division is now offering a one day forklift operator course on August 18th and November 18th, 2013. This 4 hour class provides training to keep your employees and workplace in compliance with OSHA's forklift safety standard. All classes will meet from 8am to 12pm on the DACC campus in the technology center, room 134. Cost for the class is $125 and must be paid 2 weeks prior to class.
