Comparing their contract stalemate to a couple needing marriage counseling – leaders of the Danville Education Association want to try a new method of negotiations. D.E.A. President Robin Twidwell says it is called interest based negotiations…
District 118 School Board President Bill Dobbles was invited to a DEA news conference at Danville High School Tuesday afternoon. Twidwell says the DEA wanted to sit down with Dobbles to try to work out some negotiating dates, but Dobbles sent an email saying he would not attend. And Twidwell says she is frustrated with the Board’s refusal to negotiate a single contract for DEA members….
The School Board has maintained that the contract for teachers and teaching assistants, and the one for secretaries and learning resource clerks, should remain separate.
Dobbles says he is not the chief spokesperson for negotiations, adding both negotiating teams for the school board have requested a meeting with the DEA to work out negotiations dates.
No new date has been set for the resumption of negotiations and both sides have filed complaints with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board. But despite the fact there was a strike by members of the D.E.A. two years ago….Twidwell ‘’the word hasn’t even come up’’ this year. And Twidwell says a strike this year would be ‘’an absolute last resort.’’
