The start of the new school year is only four weeks away for Danville District 118 students who attend school on the traditional calendar. But while there is much work remains to be done on construction projects at East Park Elementary and Danville High School, Superintendent Mark Denman is confident the work will get done.
Denman discussed the projects on WDAN’s Newsmakers program today (Monday), and noted that much of the work has been done on local schools while classes were in session….
Superintendant Denman says improvements East Park are very similar to those that were made earlier at South View and North Ridge Middle Schools. He adds the City of Danville is using tax increment financing money to help make improvements around Danville High School…..
A new handicapped accessible parking area is also being built along the east side of Jackson Street, just southwest of the school.
Superintendent Denman noted on the program that the School District has been working closely with the City of Danville to improve the DHS Campus. He also pointed to earlier improvements, including the Wayland-Young Athletic Facility at Danville High School, and the acquisition and demolition of some homes near the high school.
[These photos show the massive amount of construction work that is still underway around both East Park Elementary School in the top two pictures, and Danville High School in the bottom two. The second photo from top shows the new cafeteria area that is being added at East Park. The third photo shows construction workers busy at Danville High School on Monday. They were working in the area where Jackson has been narrowed to a single lane as part of the safety improvements being made.]
[This photo shows the progress being made on an environmentally green multi-purpose area southeast of Danville High School. The area will be able to be used for parking or such things as marching band practice once completed. A new drainage system was included as part of the project. The City of Danville earlier received a $750-thousand dollar federal grant to help with some of the improvements. The money is being channeled through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to the City of Danville's Midtown Tax Increment Financing District.]
