Demolition Clears More Land West of Palmer Arena

Demolition work is nearing completion on a building which had become a downtown eyesore.  The building, located along West Main Street west of the David S. Palmer Arena, had recently been fenced off because of concern over whether the front was structurally sound.

The demolition is being done by the building’s owner – and not at local taxpayer’s expense.  The building is owned by Curt and Steve Mielke.   It is the latest of three buildings to be demolished recently in the downtown area.   Others were on East Main and North Jackson Street.

Danville Public Works Director Doug Ahrens said when the Jackson Street work was done that it was nice the property owner was paying for the demolition.  Many other demolitions around the city have occurred at taxpayer expense….but not the ones currently underway on West Main, or the demolition of a former printing building at Jackson and Van Buren.
