Health, Safety and Activity Fair Set at Village Mall

HALO’s ongoing mission to create a healthier community will be evident at the Village Mall on Saturday, August 25th from 10:00am to 2:00pm for area children and their parents. The Health Committee of the HALO Project of Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation invites area children to bring their parents and participate in the Annual Health, Safety and Activity Fair.

Over forty local experts concerned with children’s health and safety will be present to provide information about various health topics, safety issues, and ways to stay active. This event is an opportunity for children and their parents to learn and get more information about local resources available in the Danville area.

Parents who complete a very short survey for HALO Project at the registration table will have a chance to win one of four $50.00 grocery cards.  Parents need to be sure to start at the registration table for children’s tickets for prizes that will be given away throughout the day, to put their own name into the pool after completing the survey, and to get their Provena bag to carry all of the giveaways received from other participating booths.

The Smiling Faces Dental Program will once again be evident as children who are accompanied by their parent/guardian can receive a free dental screening by area dentists.  The dental screening satisfies the school requirement for Kindergarten, second and sixth grade students and paperwork will be given to the guardian at the time of the screening.  Area dentists Dr. Zundo, Dr. Cooney, Dr. Sawyer, Dr. Hardy, and Dr. Fuesting will be volunteering their time to complete the dental screenings.  The dental booth can be found close to center court and a goody bag with oral hygiene products will be given to each child who receives a dental screening.  Children and their parents will be educated on topics about brushing, flossing, soft drink tooth decay, fluoride, and sealants.  Two of Dr. James Hardy’s dental staff will be demonstrating on the “effects of “acid or sugar” on the teeth” and you will also be able to see how fluoride protects teeth.

Other things to look for will be 7’ Stuffee, who very willingly unzips his tummy to show how his insides work, and some of the fun activities include playing putt-putt golf, learning how to fit in your car seat safely, workout activities, listening to stories, playing table games, and if kids can jump rope for one minute, getting a prize.

At 12:00pm you can learn how to Zumba with Illini Skateland; at 12:45pm you can watch Kruger ATA Martial Arts karate demonstrations; and at 2:00pm you can watch a gymnastics demonstration at Danville Institute of Gymnastics in the Village Mall.  Children will be able to learn more about crime awareness and the Olive Branch Lodge #38 child identification program will fingerprint, photo, and interview children and then put the information on a disc.  Children can participate in marble painting, bean bag toss, and put first aid kits together.  Eye care education with cleaning solution for glasses will be available and Dr. Angela Hoess will provide a free ear examination with developmental milestones for hearing education.  Robinson Chiropractic will check children for scoliosis with their computerized scan of the spine.

New booth participants are the Sickle Cell Disease association of Illinois, The Country Store Health Foods, Jumpin Jax, Early Childhood Network with MIECHV, Danville Art League, and the Center for Youth & Family Solutions.  All booths have information available about the services that their agency, organization, or business provides to the community as well as an interactive activity for the children.  There will be FREE popcorn, granola bars, and apples, so kids, grab your parents and munch your way through the Children’s Health, Safety, & Activity Fair!
