A four-vehicle pile-up along Illinois route one in Iroquois County Tuesday morning (February 27, 2018) has claimed a life. State Police say 75-year-old Glenn Kolzow of Lafayette, Indiana was pronounced dead at a hospital following the crash. Troopers say Kolzow was one of the drivers involved.
The crash occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. at Illinois route 1 and Iroquois County Road 500 N. The preliminary investigation found that Kolzow had stopped for a stop sign and was waiting for traffic to clear when his vehicle was hit in the rear by a semi tractor trailer. The impact knocked Kolzow’s vehicle into two others traveling in the opposite direction.
The 53-year-old semi driver, Kenneth Swanson of Midlothian, escaped injury. The other two drivers were 29-year-old Seth Moody of Danville and 42-year-old David Chin of Urbana. Chin and a passenger, 70-year-old Stephen Robbins of Rantoul, were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver of the semi was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
