Meetings Focusing on District 118’s Future

Meetings Focusing on District 118’s Future

A series of meeting this week is focusing on a new strategic plan for Danville District 118 Schools.  Superintendent Alicia Geddis says having a strategic plan is important….

{‘’We need a vision.  We need a direction for the District. And when we first came there were a few immediate fires that we had to put out and we focused on discipline.  And trying to understand the students and to understand who was where – and make sure we had the right people in the right seats on the right bus,’’ said Geddis. ‘’And that enabled us to make our discipline numbers more in line with what’s going on with the state – because at first we had the worst discipline record in the state.  And now, we’ve gone from 111 expulsions to 2.’’}

Associate Superintendent for Higher Education, Dr. Beth Yacobi, says District 118 has made a number of improvements – including adding new classes….

{‘’What I want to see come out of the Strategic Plan is also these comprehensive tracks that students can enter and know there’s different learning paths.  There’s so many options and different ways to go that very clearly we have the facilities, the programs, the partnerships – as Dr. Geddis said with DACC (Danville Area Community College) – to really support them.’’}

One of the meetings focusing on the new strategic plan was held at Danville High School last evening (Tuesday, February 18, 2020).  Other meetings with a consultant are scheduled for Wednesday, February 19th, from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Southwest Elementary School and Thursday, February 20th, in the library at Northeast Elementary Magnet School starting at 5:00 p.m.   All of the meetings are open to the public.  Superintendent Geddis, along with Associate Superintendents Beth Yacobi and John Hart, discussed the District 118 Strategic Plan Tuesday on WDAN Radio’s ‘Newsmakers’ program.  The program features different guests each morning at 7:30 on WDAN 1490 am Radio.
